Who We AreOur approach
We believe good planning starts with partnership. You bring your experience, your goals, and your priorities—and we bring the clarity and perspective to help you navigate the decisions ahead. We take the time to understand your full picture by asking thoughtful questions, listening closely, and coordinating with the professionals who support you. Together, we create a clear, well‑grounded plan that reflects what matters most.
Patrick McCormick
Financial Planner - Principal
pmccormick@baystatefinancial.com
For Patrick, financial planning starts with understanding people—their responsibilities, their hopes, and the decisions that keep them up at night. With more than 20 years of advising experience, he focuses on bringing clarity to complex situations so clients can move forward with confidence.
Patrick guides clients across a wide spectrum of planning needs, with a particular focus on individuals and business owners navigating complex financial decisions. His work includes helping clients think through business succession, tax‑efficient wealth strategies, retirement planning, estate considerations, and risk management approaches that support long‑term goals. He stays attentive to trends that matter—such as changing tax laws, the shifting landscape of business transitions, and the increased focus on coordinated planning among advisors—so clients have guidance that is thoughtful, informed, and aligned with the decisions in front of them.
Outside the office, Patrick is dedicated to contributing to the community where he lives and raises his family. He and his wife, Caitlyn, reside in Newburyport with their two children, Collins and Griffin. He serves on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee for the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce. He has also previously served on the boards of the Newburyport Preservation Trust and The Alliance of Climate and Environmental Stewards.
Kory Leahy
Director of Operations
Kory Leahy is the Director of Operations and the first point of contact for clients, ensuring the practice runs smoothly and clients receive consistent, high‑quality service. With more than a decade of experience supporting financial advisors, she specializes in managing day‑to‑day operations, preparing client materials, coordinating schedules, and keeping every detail organized behind the scenes. Her work allows the team to deliver a seamless client experience and maintain strong, long‑term relationships.
Originally from Cape Cod, Kory graduated from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst with a degree in Marketing. She now lives in Georgetown with her partner, Scott, and their three children—Scarlet, Kash, and bonus son, Scotty. As a working mom, she values a role that offers both professional growth and the flexibility her family life requires.
Outside the office, Kory enjoys family time, camping in her RV, workouts, reading, and trips to the Cape to see family and friends. What she loves most about her work is getting to know clients beyond their financial plans—their families, interests, travels, and the milestones they’re excited about. Those connections are what make the work meaningful.
Robert Burns, CFP®
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®
Rob Burns entered the financial planning profession with a clear purpose: to help clients understand their money in a way that supports their lives, not just their portfolios. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a thoughtful, steady guide—someone who analyzes portfolios, understands cash flow, and adapts strategies as life’s uncertainties arise. His approach is rooted in staying organized, making mindful decisions, and advocating for clients at every stage.
Rob’s day‑to‑day work includes reviewing investments, planning for retirement, and fine‑tuning strategies as clients’ personal and financial circumstances change. He focuses on the details behind the scenes so clients can feel confident about the bigger picture.
He holds a Bachelor of Finance from Bentley University and has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation, as well as the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant credentials from the American College. His work has been recognized through several honors, including Baystate Financials’ Financial Planner of the Year, participation in the Leaders, Masters, and Chairman’s Conferences, and the 2008 Rick Larson Memorial Award for community involvement.
Rob splits his time between Rangeley, ME, and Cuttyhunk, MA, and lives in Exeter with his wife, Michelle, and their three children—Anna, Jason, and Clay. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and finding quiet moments by the water.
What Rob values most in his work is getting to know clients beyond the numbers—their families, interests, and hopes for the future. These conversations reinforce his belief that financial planning is ultimately about helping people build the lives they envision.
Caitlin DeSoye, JD*, CEPA
Financial Planner, Wealth Advisor
For Caitlin, financial planning is never just only about the numbers—it’s about what money represents to her clients: security, freedom, dreams, fears, family dynamics, and legacy. With more than 20 years of experience solving financial puzzles for clients, she finds the greatest reward in seeing people accomplish things they once thought were out of reach. Buying the boat. Having the baby. Selling the company. Affording the long-term care desired. Growing the business. Taking the trip. Realizing the divorce is not the end. Those moments fuel her passion for the work she does.
With a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School, a Bachelor’s of Finance from Bentley University, the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) certification and pending completion of the Certified Divorce Financial Analysis (CDFA) certification, Caitlin serves as a great “value add” to our team. Her areas of expertise provide a resource to ensure that strategies are vetted against life’s uncertainties and her ability to coordinate with your CPA and Attorney and simplify complex situations helps you to truly understand where you are and how to get to where you want to be.
When Caitlin isn’t crunching numbers or discussing strategies with clients, she can be found chasing her three children and husband around the slopes at Sunday River, on one of the many sports fields around Exeter, caring for family, or finding yet another way to be involved in her local community.
